Christie’s announced on Tuesday that Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1981 work, Untitled, could set an artist’s record in November, when it is expected to sell for about US$20 million.
Christie’s did not identify the seller, but it is rumored to be French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
“Basquiat is increasingly being recognized as a grand master of post-war art alongside de Kooning, Warhol, and Pollock,” specialist Loic Gouzer told Reuters.
