Joost - Free online TV - Comedy, cartoons, sports,... →
I’m really digging this new Joost service for OS X.  It’s a little buggy and I know I could probably watch a few of these on either a torrent, abc.com, cbs.com et al. But, all in all it’s pretty nice to have it streamed straight to my laptop and add episodes to my favourites section.

My Disco - Paradise
In 2003, My Disco performed their first shows in small venues in and around Melbourne including many 2pm all-ages house shows. Late 2003 saw the release of their debut 7”, and marked their first Australian tour. They soon became renowned for their arduous tour ethic, demonstrated in extensive tours to often unconventional destinations, that included remote areas of Australia, South-east...

Meet Bill
I just finished watching this fantastic film Meet Bill and cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is reading this.  Here is the synopsis of the movie: Meet Bill (Eckhart) — a doormat if there ever was one. A man reduced to a mere accessory to his family by working a dead end job at his father-in-law’s bank, Bill’s wife Jess (Banks) is loathe to explain her “friendship”...

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
Wolf Parade began when former Frog Eyes member Spencer Krug was offered a gig supporting Arcade Fire’s Us Kids Knowtour. With only a 3-week deadline to form a band and record enough songs to support a tour, Krug contacted a fellow Canadian guitarist Dan Boeckner (formerly of British Columbia band Atlas Strategic) and began writing songs in Krug’s apartment.[1] Initially using a drum...

QQ: opportunity costs
dihard: An opportunity cost is what you sacrifice by choosing one option or pursuing one endeavor over another. It’s one of the most basic principles of economics and here’s a little quiz from a book I’m reading, The Economic Naturalist, that tests your knowledge. (Explanation to come..) Suppose you’ve won a free ticket to see an Eric Clapton concert tonight and you can’t resell it. You have no...

Bury The Sound - Autumn Magnets
More friendly to the ear than My Bloody Valentine and perhaps quieter than Explosions in the Sky, Bury The Sound achieve a special niche in the instrumental shoegaze spectrum—one that will surely be gobbled up by music fans waiting for just such a conglomerate. “What Would One Become” settles the matter by achieving that sort of multi-emotional musical composition that Explosions in the Sky does...

Young and Restless were formed in 2005, and won the 2006 Triple J Unearthed competition to play at the Homebake Festival 2006[1]. The band formed in early 2005 when Karina and Ash (who were old high school buddies) combined with Ross, Mark and Nugie. Early names of the band were ‘…Wolves’ and then ‘The I Hate Yous’ before settling on the current name. They...

Tricky-Knowle West Boy
Adrian Thaws (born January 27, 1968), better known as Tricky, is an English trip hop musician in the British music scene (despite loathing the “trip hop” tag). He is noted for a whispering lyrical style that is half-rapped, half-sung. As a producer and a musician, he is noted for a dark, rich and layered sound. Culturally, Tricky bridges white and black Britain, particularly in his...
